Ultra-rare Cristiano Ronaldo card sells for record $1.35 million

A one-of-a-kind Cristiano Ronaldo trading card sold for $1.35 million in a private sale, according to Fanatics Collect, which says it brokered the deal.The sale smashes the previous publicly known record for a Cristiano Ronaldo card, which was $312,000 for his 2002-03 Panini Mega Craques rookie card in a Gem-Mint PSA 10 grade via auction in 2021. This is also the second most expensive known soccer card sale of all time, behind the $1.5 million paid for Lionel Messi’s 2004 Panini Mega Cracks rookie card in a PSA 10 grade with the MBA Gold Diamond distinction (for exceptional eye-appeal in the grade) in a private sale also brokered by Fanatics Collect last year.The announcement comes as Ronaldo celebrates winning the Saudi Pro League for the first time. Panini’s Kaboom sets have been some of the most popular and valuable inserts of the ultra-modern era across multiple sports, due in part to their eye-catching comic-inspired art. The 50-player 2018 set, which was only available in multisport packs from a Panini Rewards program release, added the Green 1/1 parallel to the standard base versions launched five years earlier.
