The President of the Philippines has issued an urgent warning to citizens to evacuate as soon as possible.
President Bongbong Marcos said: "Heed tsunami warning, move to higher ground now, do not wait, life is more important than anything left behind."
Footage from General Santos, Philippines shows a building collapse as a result of the earthquake's waves.
Tsunami warnings have also been issued for Indonesia as a result of the high magnitude.
The Philippines's seismology agency has warned that the earthquake's waves may continue for hours.
Mr Marcos has also urged all Government officials to act immediately.
