By VICTORIA CHURCHILL, US POLITICAL REPORTER Published: 20:47, 31 May 2026 | Updated: 20:52, 31 May 2026 While many states and cities are set to celebrate gay pride month in June, several red strongholds are pushing their own kind of celebrations.  Arkansas governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders declared the month of June to be 'fidelity month' in a proclamation issued this past Wednesday by her office, seemingly as a rejection of pride month. Sanders, who was raised as a Southern Baptist, noted that 'cultivating fidelity to God, family, community, and country contributes to human flourishing and supports a healthy, stable, well-ordered society.' Before being elected as Governor, Sanders was a White House press secretary during President Donald Trump's first administration, and is also the daughter of former governor, presidential candidate, and current US ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee.  Republicans aren't the only politicians working in some June re-branding.  Democrat Boston Mayor Michelle Wu contrastingly moved to embrace 'woke' social agendas this last week, as her office announced their sponsorship of an event celebrating 'Trans period pride.' The June 17th event, which is set to take place at a branch of the Boston Public Library is intended to raise 'conversation around transgender experiences with menstruation.' A catered dinner and 'free period underwear' will be offered to all attendees. Governor Bill Lee signed the resolution on April 9, just two days after it was sent to his desk, following passage through both chambers of the Republican-controlled state legislature. The resolution, first proposed last year, also calls the nuclear family the 'basic building block of Tennessee's society throughout her formative years,' saying it has 'built the United States of America and created prosperity within our nation.' LGBTQ groups were quick to denounce the resolution, even though there is no enforcement mechanism, leaving Tennessee residents free to celebrate Pride Month if they so choose.  No comments have so far been submitted.
