Published: 20:37, 18 August 2026 | Updated: 20:37, 18 August 2026 A rape crisis charity has refused a donation from a Scottish campaign group over concerns about its messaging on immigration. Glasgow and Clyde Rape Crisis (GCRC) turned down funding from the Scottish Citizen Army, which has expressed concerns over high levels of migration and its effect on local services. The group has faced public scrutiny over its messaging. GCRC said there were concerns some messaging and comments associated with the group appeared to link sexual violence with immigration status. The Scottish Citizen Army said it is not ‘anti-immigration’ and it is ‘furious’ at the decision. In a statement on Tuesday, GCRC said it exists to support all women and girls in the Glasgow and Clyde area who have experienced rape or sexual violence. ‘To maintain the trust of everyone who turns to us, we exercise careful judgment about the fundraising activities, partnerships and public discourse associated with our name,’ a spokesman for the GCRC said. ‘Concerns were raised about some of the messaging and comments associated with the Scottish Citizen Army fundraiser, including messages linking sexual violence to an individual’s immigration status. Glasgow and Clyde Rape Crisis (GCRC) turned down funding from the Scottish Citizen Army ‘Glasgow & Clyde Rape Crisis does not hold or advocate a position on immigration policy. ‘Our sole concern is ensuring that every survivor of sexual violence can access support, irrespective of their nationality, background or immigration status.’ The Scottish Citizen Army said the rejection of its donation was ‘political’ and it is ‘disgusted’ by the decision. Posting on X, the group said GCRC staff had accepted women’s essential hygiene kits from the Scottish Citizen Army. ‘Hours later they rejected any further fundraising purely because of our positions on immigration and community safety,’ it said. ‘Politics over survivors. There it is in black and white.’ The group denied it is ‘anti-immigration’ and criticised the rape crisis centre for turning away support. ‘They have repeatedly said demand is soaring, waiting lists are closed, and women face waits of up to 226 days,’ the post said. ‘Yet they still turned away practical support raised for those same women. That is an insult to every survivor who needs help right now.’ The group said all donations made through its fundraiser will be refunded. ‘If the charity will accept your donation, please still give – women and girls still need the support,’ the Scottish Citizen Army said. Around £380 was raised. It is understood the group has contacted Just Giving and that everyone has had their donations refunded or will be refunded.
