Pauline Hanson accuses 'squirming' Albanese of glaring double standard over Chinese billionaire dinner

Published: 05:17, 27 July 2026 | Updated: 05:17, 27 July 2026 Pauline Hanson has accused Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of hypocrisy after he attended a fundraising dinner hosted by the son of a Chinese billionaire who was previously pursued by the Australian Taxation Office  over an alleged $273 million unpaid tax bill. The Prime Minister has faced mounting questions over the fundraiser, which was held at Sydney businessman Felix Lee's Point Piper mansion. During an interview with David Speers on ABC's Insiders, Albanese attempted to brush aside questions about the event. 'I attend lots of functions in lots of places,' Albanese repeated during the interview, which aired on Sunday. Lee had reportedly offered to donate about $1 million to the Labor Party, although it is understood the event ultimately raised less than $100,000. Other high-profile guests included Commonwealth Bank chief executive Matt Comyn and former Victorian premier Daniel Andrews. The fundraiser has also reignited scrutiny of the Lee family's financial affairs. Felix Lee's father, Chinese billionaire Phillip Dong Fang Lee, a casino and property high-roller, previously faced allegations of misleading the ATO over financial transactions between his Chinese and Australian bank accounts. The ATO froze Mr Lee's assets in 2021 before reaching a settlement the following year, prompting Hanson to question Albanese's decision to attend the dinner. 'Look at the Prime Minister squirm and refuse to answer questions about the dinner he attended allegedly in return for a $1 million donation to the Labor Party,' Hanson said. Hanson said if Labor didn't have double standards 'it wouldn't have any', following Albanese's attendance of the dinner with Felix Lee Anthony Albanese is facing increasing scrutiny over his attendance at the dinner 'The Prime Minister hits Australians with some of the highest taxes in the world, then dines with the family of a man the tax office reportedly chased for a quarter of a billion in unpaid tax. 'Lee's father was a central figure in the 2022 inquiry into the basket case casino, having put $2.2 billion through Sydney's Star casino including the use of prohibited Chinese debit cards. 'There are allegations of billions flowing from China into Australia - this is the company the Prime Minister keeps.' When pressed by the Speers bout the past ATO allegations against Lee, Albanese said he was 'not aware' of the issues, before conceding that Felix's father wasn't at the dinner. 'He wasn't there .... I attend a lot of meetings and functions with lots of people, and talking about people's relatives removed from that...' However, Speers cut him off and asked if the $1 million donation would be looked into as a potential 'red flag'.
