The Oasis guitarist once claimed DIY SOS Nick Knowles' singing sounded like 'he's having a stroke' - but might now appreciate his building acumen, with works needed for the musician's new home. His Grade II-listed property in north London needs a refit due to issues including 'structural movement', according to council planning documents. The five-level home Gallagher bought last year was previously extensively altered and split into flats before an ex-owner converted it into one single home. According to documents now submitted to Westminster Council, there is 'significant structural movement', 'water ingress from roof level', 'rising damp at lower levels', 'deterioration of roof covering' and 'previous unsympathetic alterations'. Gallagher, 59, has had to tear out fixtures and fittings from all rooms - including seven bedrooms - which are now empty shells with no luxury wallpaper or flooring. His proposed home changes would include a new gym, sauna, cinema room and basement bar. He has been given the green light by council planners for some of the renovations replacing or repairing issues like-for-like. He also wants an interlinking building to be converted into a one-bed guest suite. His submitted documents state: 'Construction waste will be minimised through careful deconstruction rather than demolition, allowing materials that cannot be reused on site to be separated and recycled where possible. 'The careful repair, reuse and upgrading of the existing building fabric represents the most sustainable approach to development, extending the life of the historic structure while reducing embodied carbon and construction waste. 'Improvements to environmental performance will be achieved through conservation-style slimline double-glazed windows, improved draught-proofing, roof insulation, efficient building services and the use of durable, natural materials wherever possible.' A report drafted by his architects supported the application, stating these were necessary repairs rather than wholesale changes to the historic building. They say: 'The proposed works are limited to the repair, maintenance and like-for-like renewal of defective building fabric, together with the removal of later non-original internal elements and renewal of services using existing routes. 'They do not involve the alteration of features of special architectural or historic interest, nor any change to the character or appearance of the listed building. 'Internally, original features including doors, architraves, panelling, cornices and other historic detailing are to be retained and refurbished. 'Works are limited to the removal of later, non-original fabric of no heritage significance.' Noel reunited last year with brother Liam for a successful Oasis reunion and series of concerts including sell-out gigs at London's Wembley Stadium and across the Atlantic. The twice-married musician divorced from second wife Sara McDonald in 2023 after 12 years of marriage. He previously lived with his first wife Meg Matthews in a property dubbed 'Supernova Heights', in Belsize Park, north London - a nod to the 1995 Oasis album track Champagne Supernova.
