Wife of accused vigilante tradies is charged by cops - after fed-up locals allegedly beat on-the-run criminal to death with baseball bats during 'citizen's arrest'

By CANDACE SUTTON, SENIOR NEWS REPORTER, AUSTRALIA Published: 01:10, 29 July 2026 | Updated: 01:10, 29 July 2026 The wife of one of two local plumbers who allegedly beat a career criminal to death in a ‘citizen’s arrest’ has been accused of hiding the baseball bats they allegedly used.  The fatal attack allegedly happened in the early hours of April 8 after reports of a man acting suspiciously in Bray Park, Murwillumbah, on the NSW Northern Rivers. Police found Vaughn Scott Cumming, 35, on the footpath suffering serious injuries after allegedly 'being detained' by the two neighbours.  Cumming was reportedly a serial home invader who had been on the run from police for months, with a dozen warrants out for his arrest. Luke Michael Manning, 31, and Michael Henry Harding, 42, allegedly confronted him after he was lurking outside their neighbouring homes on Bellevue Avenue at 4.30am. Manning, a Tweed Shire Council plumber and Harding, a plumbing contractor, then allegedly began to beat him with the baseball bats. Emergency services found the two men still on the footpath with Cumming, who died in Gold Coast University Hospital two days later. Police charged Manning and Harding with manslaughter earlier this month and now Manning's wife, Sandi Dawn Williams, 43, has been charged with hiding the baseball bats. Court documents allege she removed baseball bats 'used in an unlawful and dangerous act resulting in the death of Vaughn Cumming', also known as Vaughn Scott Cummings, reported News Corp. Cumming, who had a lengthy police record going back to 2014, had been charged with car theft, false number plates, entering a building with intent to commit an indictable offence, domestic violence orders and multiple driving offences.  In the bio on one of his social media pages, Cumming wrote: 'Finally getting my life together - it's been a hard 12 years with drug addiction, time to grow up.' Williams, Manning and Harding appeared in Tweed Heads Local Court on Monday and remain on bail. They must report each week to police until their next appearance, on September 18.
