Lightning strike rips massive hole in house roof
Firefighters battled a major blaze after a house in Carmarthenshire was struck by lightning overnight. Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said crews were called to Glanaman at 11.23pm on Wednesday, May 27, following reports of a fire at a two-storey semi-detached property. Videos online show the house being struck by lightning before a fire erupted on the roof of the house. Fire crews from Ammanford, Amman Valley, Llandeilo and Morriston attended the scene. Firefighters used six breathing apparatus sets, two hose reel jets, three thermal imaging cameras, ladders and ceiling hooks to bring the blaze under control. The fire caused significant damage to the property and spread to a neighbouring home. All occupants were accounted for and no injuries were reported. A multi-agency response was launched, with Dyfed-Powys Police, the Welsh Ambulance Service and the National Grid also attending the incident. Fire crews remained at the scene until 2.45am on Thursday, May 28. The Met Office issued a weather warning for Wales on Wednesday for thunderstorms following a period of extreme heat across the country.
