Jerome Miron / Imagn Images Share full article1The Dallas Stars have banned a fan who was part of a group captured on video giving an apparent Nazi salute during a game last December. According to a team statement on Monday, the team identified and spoke with the fan who purchased the tickets and has banned them “indefinitely from the American Airlines Center.” The team did not identify the fan. “Additionally,” the statement read, “we are increasing in-arena messaging regarding the Fan Code of Conduct and how our fans can report violations, along with prioritizing staff training to identify and handle situations that arise. Any type of discriminatory or hateful behavior will not be tolerated and has no place in our arena. Creating and sustaining environments that are inclusive, safe and respectful is a non-negotiable for the Dallas Stars.” Social media users called attention to a video featuring a group of men who did the gesture to accompany the Stars’ goal song, “Puck Off” by the band Pantera. The video is from a Dec. 21 game featuring the Stars and the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Stars began an investigation into the video this month. In a statement to The Athletic on Monday, an American Airlines Center spokesperson said the arena has “zero tolerance for any acts of hate and/or discrimination.” “As such, we strongly denounce the actions that appear to be depicted in the video footage and are conducting an internal investigation,” the statement reads. “All fans and attendees are expected to adhere to AAC and, as applicable, NBA or NHL Codes of Conduct when attending events. Guests who violate any such Code of Conduct may be subject to ejection from the event without refund and, to the extent their conduct constitutes a violation of applicable law, prosecution.” The American Airlines Center is home to the NHL’s Dallas Stars and the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks, housing both teams since its opening in 2001.
