Cavs' postseason fate is on Donovan Mitchell's shoulders now
CLEVELAND — This is why he is here. It’s on him now. This is why the Cleveland Cavaliers surrendered three players and three unprotected draft picks to acquire Donovan Mitchell, for moments such as Sunday’s Game 7 in Detroit.Mitchell has heard all the criticisms of not being able to get out of the second round. He had the perfect opportunity at home Friday night in Game 6 to close out the Pistons, to unburden himself from one of the largest stains left on his terrific career.Advertisement

To change his luck, he first tried wearing Trent Grisham’s pants; then, he moved to Giancarlo Stanton’s.But Chisholm believes he has found a new talisman — at least for now: shortstop José Caballero’s bat, which he swung to three hits, a walk and two RBIs in a 5-2 win over the New York Mets in the Subway Series opener at Citi Field on Friday night.Advertisement

Red Sox run into outs on basepaths, waste opportunities against MLB's top team
ATLANTA — The Boston Red Sox have undoubtedly — and inexplicably — been a better team on the road this season than at home.Entering Friday, they were hitting .247 on the road compared with .223 at home. They were averaging 4.8 runs per game away from Fenway Park compared with 2.8 runs at home. They’d homered 20 times on the road compared with 11 times at home. And with runners in scoring position, they had hit .294 on the road versus just .174 at home. With the start of a six-game road trip, migh...

After all the rumors and leaks, we finally have the 2026 NFL schedule etched in stone, which means it’s time to make some (way-too-early) predictions. For that, we’ll simulate the season 100,000 times using my NFL Projection Model to see who is most likely to come out on top.The model works by projecting how a team performs compared to league average. NFL schedule makers told the Jets what the league thinks of them: Not much
“The Jets kind of owe us one.”That was Mike North, the NFL’s vice president of broadcast planning, when the 2024 schedule was released two years ago. The Jets found themselves in historic territory with six night games in the first 11 weeks, the most for any team since the 1970 merger. That came a year after they had five primetime games, when the NFL was trying to capitalize on the excitement of Aaron Rodgers’ arrival.Advertisement
