GB News host Martin Daubney has brutally shut down a Labour MP after pleading with his colleagues to "back the Prime Minister" after Wes Streeting's resignation.

Speaking to the People's Channel, Andrew Lewin urged his fellow MPs to "think again, get back behind the Prime Minister and to deliver on a mandate".

Hitting back at Mr Lewin, Martin argued: "It's not going to happen, Andrew. That's not going to happen.

"And with respect, you're starting to sound a bit like Comical Ali: there's nothing to see here. Andrew, this Government is falling apart before our eyes and you're in a state of denial?!"

Mr Lewin continued to defend the Government, responding: "I'm not saying there's nothing to see here, I'm saying that this has been a really bad week for the Labour Party because we've turned inwards, but there is a big judgement to make now.

"If we go through with this and have a leadership contest, that will play out for weeks or months, and that would be a much bigger error. We've got a chance to think calmly and say, actually, no candidate has got 81 votes, there is no leadership contest."

He pleaded directly with his Labour colleagues: "I know that there are colleagues thinking hard about what to do, and my ask of them is to think about what do our constituents want?

"They want us to focus on doing the job we were elected to do, and I hope that we can draw under a line under this."

Admitting he "admires" Mr Lewin's "gumption" in standing up for Sir Keir, Martin told the MP "people are sick to the back teeth" of a Government that "promised calm and has delivered nothing but chaos".

Mr Lewin told GB News: "I appreciate your words about me sticking behind the Prime Minister, which I will continue to do.

"I can tell you that I've had a lot more emails from people saying stick with the Prime Minister, we don't want another change of PM."

He argued: "I won my seat off the Conservatives, off Grant Shapps, less than two years ago, and the message then was clear that they had enough of recycling through different prime ministers. They want some some stability, and that's why the PM has got my support."

Wes Streeting

Reflecting on Wes Streeting's resignation letter, Martin pressed Mr Lewin on the "chaos" of the current Government and how it is "getting worse" with each passing day.

The Labour MP told the People's Channel: "I think one of the worst things we could do as a Labour Party would be to have a leadership contest now, to turn inward and to have a process that would be chaotic.

"Because it would play out for weeks, and that would prevent us from focusing on governing. And I know my constituents in want the Labour Party to focus on delivering on the mandate that we were elected on less than two years ago."

Mr Lewin was then quizzed on Mr Streeting's remarks about "a dangerous English nationalism represented by Nigel Farage and Reform UK" and whether Labour will "wake up to the fact that millions of working-class people who want to be patriotic and support their country are not far-right and are not racist?"

Andrew Lewin

Mr Lewin concluded: "I don't think everybody who disagrees with the Labour Party is far-right, I've never used that language.

"I think the biggest issue for our country is the economy, and one of the reasons why I'm against the leadership contest and why I'm supporting the Prime Minister is we've got to focus on the economy.

"Just today, we've had growth figures, 0.6 per cent growth for the last three months, which is the fastest of any country in the G7, building the foundations to turn the country around.

"That's what I want to be talking about. We should be focused on the issues that matter to the country, and I'm certain that people who watch GB News do care about those issues."
