England captain Harry Kane heads into the 2026 World Cup on the brink of history, needing just three more goals to surpass Gary Lineker as the Three Lions' all-time leading scorer at the biggest tournument in world sport.

In a special GB News Originals feature, Paul Coyte explored Kane's remarkable rise from a series of lower-league loan spells to becoming England's record goalscorer with the star's first-ever coach, Dave Bracknell.

Despite early doubts about his prospects at Tottenham Hotspur, Kane developed into a complete striker, combining goalscoring, creativity and leadership before continuing his success with Bayern Munich.

Public opinion gathered for the programme overwhelmingly backed Kane as England's best player, with many believing he could be key to the Three Lions' hopes in North America.

The programme also featured an interview with Kane's first youth coach, Mr Bracknell, who managed him at Ridgeway Rovers.

Bracknell admitted he did not initially predict the scale of Kane's success, saying: "To have the career he's had though, he's unbelievable. It's special."

He credited Kane's work ethic and professionalism as the key factors behind his rise, adding: "The difference between those that did make it and those that nearly made it is the hard work and the effort they put in."

Bracknell also praised Kane's character, saying the striker had remained grounded despite becoming one of football's biggest stars.

"He doesn't change," Bracknell said. "To be a superstar and still have your feet on the ground, it just shows what type of person he is."

With eight World Cup goals already to his name and England once again among the contenders, Kane now has the opportunity not only to break another record but potentially lead his country to a first World Cup triumph since 1966.
