World Cup 2026 day three: US thump Paraguay while Canada draw, Scotland in action later

Co-hosts Canada and America got their World Cup campaigns underway, with the US getting off to a flying start, thumping Paraguay 4-1.

Canada was held to a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina, after going behind thanks to a header from Jovo Lukic.

Southampton's Cyre Larin got the equaliser as Jesse Marsch's side shared the points in their first game.

America put Paraguay to the sword with an incredible performance, going 3-0 up in the first half thanks to an own goal from Damian Bobadilla and two fabulous goals from Florian Balogun.

The South Americans pulled one back through Mauricio before Gio Reyna scored a lovely outside-the-foot strike in extra time to give the States a perfect start.

Four games are to come today, with Scotland in action against Haiti in a must-win game for Steve Clarke's team.

Qatar play Switzerland in the first game of the day, before Brazil faces Morocco in an exciting affair.

Australia will wrap up day three with their opening game against Turkey.

Round-up of day two at the World Cup

Day two did not disappoint at the World Cup, as America got off to winning ways while Canada was held by Bosnia and Herzegovina 1-1.

The States hammered Paraguay 4-1 in a dominant display, sending a message to the rest of the competition.

US Coach Mauricio Pochettino praised his side, saying: "It was the collective approach. Amazing, they were amazing. We can do amazing things if the fans are in this way."

Canada's manager Jesse Marsch praised his substitutes for the impact they made on the game, explaining: "The subs came on and made a big difference. The tempo got higher, and we could see that they were fading.

"So, I told them that we've got them now. It's time to put your foot on the jugular and go for the goal."
