Woman, 24, is found dead at home in Staffordshire: Man, 30, arrested 'for murder'

By WILL HALLOWELL, NEWS REPORTER Published: 20:28, 13 July 2026 | Updated: 20:36, 13 July 2026 A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead at home.  Police were called to an address at Oakwell Court, Longton, in Stoke-on-Trent at around 3.30am on Sunday where they discovered the body of 24-year-old Sarah-Louise Pennington.  The suspect, a 30-year-old man, remains in custody after extra time was granted for officers to question him.  The force is now supporting the victim's family while an investigation into the alleged murder continues.  A cordon remains at the property as of Monday afternoon, police said.  Officers are not seeking anyone else in connection with Ms Pennington's suspected murder.  However Staffordshire Police are appealing for anyone with information, including CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage from around the time of the alleged murder, to come forward.  A spokesperson for the force said: 'Extra time has been granted to question a man arrested on suspicion of murder in Stoke-on-Trent. Sarah-Louise Pennington, 24, has been named by Staffordshire Police as the alleged victim  Her body was discovered at an address in Stoke-on-Trent in the early hours of Sunday morning 'We were called to an address at Oakwell Court, Longton, at around 3.30am yesterday (Sunday 12 July). 'Sadly, the body of a woman was found inside. Her family continue to be supported by specialist officers at this time.  'After speaking to them, we can now confirm the woman's identity as 24-year-old Sarah-Louise Pennington, from Stoke-on-Trent. 'A 30-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent who was arrested on suspicion of murder remains in custody and will continue to be questioned after extra time was granted.'   Detective Inspector Kirsty Oldfield, from Staffordshire Police's major investigations department, said: 'We're working incredibly hard to progress our lines of enquiry into this investigation and to support the woman's family at such a traumatic time. 'We know the outer cordon is affecting a lot of residents' access to their homes and we are working to reduce the size of the cordon as soon as we can.' 'I'd like to reassure the community that we are not currently seeking anyone else in connection with this investigation and our enquiries are moving at pace. 'Officers will be out carrying out house-to-house enquiries and providing visible reassurance in the area. 'I want to thank everyone who has already been in touch with information and I'd ask anyone who hasn't already been in touch with officers that might be able to help with our enquiries to contact us.'
