Woke Boston mayor finds time to promote menstruation event for the TRANSGENDER community

LEPORE, US SENIOR REPORTER Published: 00:44, 29 May 2026 | Updated: 00:59, 29 May 2026 Boston Mayor Michelle Wu's office for LGBTQ advancement is promoting a transgender menstruation event.  The outwardly liberal mayor has made no secret of her love of progressive causes, despite presiding over a city whose budget came up $50 million in the red just a month ago. Wu's LGBTQ office partnered with the Massachusetts National Organization for Women and multiple local pro-LGBTQ groups to present an event called 'Trans Period Pride' on June 17.  The event, which will be held at a branch of the Boston Public Library, promises to be 'another consciousness raising conversation around transgender experiences with menstruation.' The Instagram post promoting the talk is decked out in the shades of pink and light blue traditionally associated with the transgender pride flag.   Attendees will be treated to a catered meal and free period underwear on behalf of the mayor and the sponsoring groups.   The Daily Mail has reached out to both Mayor Wu and the Mayor’s Office of LGBTQ Advancement for comment.  Wu has been a controversial figure in Beantown, despite cruising to a second term in the mayor's office. Applicants who are 'low-income, isolated queer and trans migrants, asylum seekers and refugees' are prioritized for the 'wellness allowance.'  The initiative, called 'Belonging Matters', was created by OUTnewcomers, a nonprofit that advocates for LGBTQ+ migrants in Boston alongside the Mayor's Office for Immigrant Advancement, Mass Daily News reported.  Applicants get $250 to $500 toward 'non-clinical care' completely funded by the city agency, which is run by the Democrat's administration.  They can participate in activities like meditation, yoga, peer support, creative healing, acupuncture and gym memberships, as detailed in the post.  It comes as the city faces a $48.4 million deficit and teachers are faced with possible staffing cuts due to a $53 million shortfall for Boston Public Schools, according to statistics for this fiscal year.  She and liberal Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey were both mercilessly booed by the Fenway faithful at the Boston Red Sox home opener in March.  Wu, 41, has recently drawn criticism for skipping an annual St. Patrick's Day event just weeks after she attended a Ramadan night market. The breakfast, which Wu attended last year, was a gathering of different politicians from across the state who take turns throwing jabs, jokes, and songs at one another. However, Wu, who posted online about a Ramadan Night market at city hall just about two weeks before not attending the St. Patrick's Day event, chose to go to church with her family instead, a spokesperson told the Boston Globe. The mayor's absence follows hot on the heels of a clash with the event's host, Senator Nick Collins. Collins, a fellow Democrat, has publicly opposed Wu's proposal to avoid a tax increase for residential property owners by briefly increasing taxes on commercial real estate in the city. Wu, who won reelection last year, saw her pay increase to $250,000 from $207,000 in January. City councilors now earn $125,000, up from $103,500 last year.  During the meeting, Wu's ally, Councilor Sharon Durkan, claimed the pay hikes were necessary to prevent politicians from resorting to theft or taking kickbacks. 'We had a Council colleague… There was some corruption that took place on this body,' Durkan said. 'I do not want anyone that serves in this body to not be able to afford their life and to go towards something that's really dark and negative.' According to Emerson College Polling in September, 66 percent of voters approved of the job she is doing in office. No comments have so far been submitted.
