Published: 00:26, 29 June 2026 | Updated: 00:26, 29 June 2026 By the time Pink Floyd's Dave Gilmour finally finished renovating a former Victorian bathhouse on the Sussex coast, the message from residents was clear - and quite the opposite of his band's 1975 chart-topping hit Wish You Were Here. But Mr Gilmour's four-year effort to sell the redeveloped six-bedroom townhouse has reached a new ebb after it was listed again for almost half its original asking price. In 2022 the luxury Hove property went on sale for an enormous £15million after a long-running battle with campaigners, who formed a group called 'Save Hove from Property Tycoons'. Protestors had opposed the efforts of Mr Gilmour and his wife, author Polly Samson, to bulldoze an irreparable Turkish bathhouse built in 1894 to make way for the modern home. But the guitarist was forced to lower the asking price to £10million in September 2023 when house prices fell. He then took it off the market in both 2024 and 2025 after failing to attract a buyer for £8.95million. After four years the 15-room home is now on sale for £8.25million with luxury estate agent Pereds, almost half the price at which it was originally listed. Mr Gilmour, 80, and Mrs Samson, 64, bought the Grade II-listed property in 2015 and began plans for a renovation. Pink Floyd's Dave Gilmour has slashed the price of his modern seafront home, four years after it first went on sale Mr Gilmour and his wife, author Polly Samson, faced a years-long effort by campaigners to halt their bulldozing of a Victorian bathhouse to make way for the six-bedroom home The couple were given planning permission to knock down the historic building, which was beyond repair, in 2017 and replace it with an 'echo' replica of the original. But residents were incensed with one group - Save Hove from Property Tycoons - pinning a note to the building's wall mimicking the Pink Floyd song Another Brick in the Wall. It read: 'We don't need no demolition, we don't need no thoughtless plans, no tall dark shadows across our windows. Leave Medina House Alone. 'Hey Gilmour, leave our hood alone. All in all it's just another betrayal of us all, to you it's just another brick in the wall.' Pink Floyd's 1979 hit, written as a protest against oppressive methods such as corporal punishment in schools, featured the lyrics: 'We don't need no education. We don't need no thought control. No dark sarcasm in the classroom. Teacher, leave them kids alone.' Built in 1894, the building was previously home to a women's Turkish bath, a Second World War hospital, a diamond cutting business and a group of squatters The plot, pictured during its renovation, was subject to around 20 unsuccessful previous planning applications from a former owner, developer Sirus Taghan The new luxury home was built as an 'echo' of the former bathhouse, which could not be saved from demolition A note pinned to the new home's wall by a campaign group mimicked the lyrics of Pink Floyd's Another Brick in the Wall After Mr Gilmour won planning approval in 2017, he submitted plans for 'noisy' air conditioning units, which the same group branded 'a despicable outrage'. The couple finished renovating the home in 2020, first putting it on the market two years later. It has five bedrooms, three bathrooms, a music room, gym, sauna, wine store and walled garden courtyard. Originally built as a women's Turkish bathhouse, the building was closed in the 1940s and reopened as a makeshift hospital during the Second World War. After the war it was occupied by a diamond cutting business but lay empty from 1993.  Squatters from an art group called Chalk Circle occupied the building in 1999 and were allowed to remain until 2006, when they were evicted after noise and rubbish complaints. Thereafter developer Sirus Taghan, a developer and previous owner of the land, submitted around 20 unsuccessful planning applications on the site, including proposals for a 16-storey tower of 11 flats.  Overlooking the English Channel, the new home has struggled to attract a buyer Architecture firm Pilbrow and Partners reportedly led the design, which features a colourful living room It also boasts views over the English Channel, such as that pictured from one of the bedrooms There is also an airy dining room just off the kitchen in the property, which has seen its asking price lowered to £8.25million Mr Gilmour and his wife had wanted to restore the building but its disrepair forced them to demolish. At the time that planning permission for the development was granted in 2017, protestor Mike Earl said: 'It's a total disgrace the rich and famous can waltz in waving their millions and take away a slice of what makes the British south coast so unique. 'Medina House is part of our coastal heritage and the last surviving remnant of the King's Esplanade. It's a gem of Victorian architecture. It's unusual and is a slice of history.' But Save Hove's Valerie Paynter, who spent years campaigning to preserve the site, said around the same time she was almost happy with the plans approved by Brighton and Hove councillors. She said: 'It's a beautiful design, I absolutely love it and I didn't want to lose the scheme if it went the other way and it was a refusal.' The bathhouse had been the only surviving building from the famous King's Esplanade in Hove, a historic seafront promenade. No comments have so far been submitted.
