Wife of wealthy AI boss who was 'found with stab wound to the chest in downstairs bathroom' of £2.5m home was arrested, inquest hears

Neil Muller, 54, was found in a downstairs bathroom ‘off the kitchen’, while a weapon was discovered nearby in the sink, coroner Sean McGovern said. During a brief inquest opening into the death of Mr Muller at his £2.5m home in the affluent village of Claverdon, Warwickshire, last month, a court heard police were called to the gated property by paramedics reporting a man had been 'stabbed in the chest.' Mr Muller, who was CEO of technology firm Node4, was found fatally injured at the five-bedroom address on June 7. Coventry Coroner’s Court today heard that Mr Muller was in cardiac arrest when ambulance crews arrived at the scene, and was pronounced dead at 06.37am. He had ‘presented with a single stab wound to the chest’, the coroner said, as well as superficial cuts to his wrist and neck. ‘He was found in a downstairs bathroom off the kitchen, a weapon was found nearby in the sink’, the coroner added. ‘It seems at the time that the deceased’s wife was arrested and the scene was subject to forensic examination.’ Neil Muller in a photo posted on Facebook. He suffered a stab wound to the chest  Mr Muller, 54, was interviewed at Warwick Racecourse earlier this year where his team were celebrating a league and cup double A post mortem examination has produced a provisional cause of death as a stab wound to the chest, the court was told. Mr McGovern, the coroner for Coventry and Warwickshire, adjourned the four-minute hearing for a date to be fixed in order to allow police to provide ‘evidence in respect of any statements they have taken’ and for the pathologist to submit his report. In the aftermath of Mr Muller’s death, Warwickshire police said a 55-year-old woman from Birmingham was arrested on suspicion of murder at 7.33am and was later bailed until mid-August. The force said an investigation was underway and there was 'no wider risk to the public'. In a statement issued last month, a Node4 spokesman said: 'We are absolutely devastated by the death of our CEO Neil Muller. 'Although Neil only recently joined Node4, he made a meaningful impact in a short space of time. 'Our thoughts are with Neil's family, our colleagues and everyone who knew Neil at this very difficult time.' Announcing his appointment in April this year the firm said he had been hired to 'enhance its AI-focused managed services platform, alongside ERP, CRM and data analytics solutions'. The firm described him as a 'seasoned leader' who was previously in charge at MSP Digital Space for seven years. Before that he was CEO at telecoms firm Daisy. He left the role after a £1billion sale of the firm fell through, according to reports. Mr Muller was also manager of local football side Claverdon FC. Locals said Mr Muller, who had two children, was involved in village life. 'Neil did a lot for the local football club,' said one, who did not want to be named. 'I heard about it in the village shop this morning. It is a real shock and a real loss to the village.' Locals said his death came the night after an end of season award ceremony for the club, held at the Red Lion pub in Claverdon. It is not known if Mr Muller attended. Club chairman Charlie Waterworth said: 'I have heard the news but it is just too early to be making any statements. 'I am out of the country. I don't know the circumstances. It would be wrong to say anything.'
