The series finale of The Boys was released on Wednesday, with enemies Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and Homelander (Antony Starr) delivering on their promise of scorched earth. Most of the episode focused on the titular group sneaking into the White House to take down Homelander, with Butcher ultimately defeating the megalomaniac by shoving a crowbar through his head after both characters lost their powers. Ackles’ Soldier Boy was noticeably absent from the finale, after Homelander put him back into cryosleep in episode seven. But that’s not the end for Ackles’ arrogant, macho supe. He’s set to return in Vought Rising, an upcoming show set decades before The Boys. The prequel was announced during The Boys’ panel at San Diego Comic-Con in 2024. It’s the latest project in the expanding Boys universe, following the anthology series The Boys Presents: Diabolical and the recently canceled college-set show Gen V. Another spinoff, titled The Boys: Mexico and set after the events of season five of The Boys, is also in the works.For better or for worse, the final season of The Boys has more than set up Vought Rising with plenty of references to Soldier Boy’s past, from conversations with Homelander about his relationship with Clara Vought/Liberty Bell (Aya Cash) to the inclusion of his old teammate Bombsight (Mason Dye) in episode six.
