Two volunteers from Crowborough Aware have told GB News it is "necessary" for them to protect the community, amid antisocial behaviour from illegal migrants in the area.

Speaking to presenter Patrick Christys, Dave and James declared they "cannot have this in our community" and will "do it for as long as people want us to do it".

After responding to a report of illegal migrants drinking alcohol and loitering around the local supermarket, Dave stressed how important their patrols are to the residents.

He said: "Crowborough Aware came about because we were concerned once the camp arrived of safety and security in our town.

"The police, they don't get out of their cars, they don't get on their feet, they don't do a proper patrol. So we felt that it was necessary to actually do the job of the police to ensure that safety in our town.

"So we're here primarily for the women, the children and for the town whose vast majority want us here, so whilst they want us here, we will keep doing what we're doing."

Recalling another incident at the same supermarket, the volunteer revealed a man was "assaulted" by a resident of the migrant camp.

He told GB News: "We've had an assault, a guy was assaulted outside of the Lidl. So that's one incident.

"I don't know why, but for some reason, they don't like being filmed. Our concern is not just for the people of Crowborough, it is for the asylum seekers as well.

"Because they don't like being filmed, and our concern is that a member of the public, because everybody's got mobile phones these days, is going to film them, and there's going to be an altercation there."

Volunteer James also pointed out that the illegal migrants like to gather at the local golf course, just a short walk from the barracks.

He said: "I think mainly because where the entrance is here, it's literally across the road.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

"There's some nice steps onto the tee, they congregate there, but very recently I recovered 17 bottles of beer there, two bottles of vodka, and we effectively escorted the individuals that were drinking there back down into the camp."

James continued: "We didn't do it by force, we just escorted them back down. I collected up all the bottles, handed them to Clearsprings Ready Homes, the people that run the security in the camp.

"I said, this needs to be logged, it needs to be noted and it needs to be dealt with. We cannot have this in our community."

Another community protection group, Crowborough Shield, is currently pursuing legal action to end the housing of 350 migrants in a nearby army camp.

Crowborough

Kim Bailey, chairman of the Crowborough Shield campaign group, told GB News that locals feel "abandoned" by the authorities.

She said: "They've abandoned us. All of the other towns have got their district councils backing them.

"They have completely abandoned us and said that they will not do it."

The Home Office has previously said that asylum accommodation is provided to people who would otherwise be destitute while their claims are processed and accommodation sites are assessed before use.
