ALBAWABA — Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf has warned that military strength alone cannot guarantee Iran’s ability to withstand mounting challenges if the country fails to maintain economic stability and meet the basic needs of its population.
Speaking during a meeting with Iranian and Iraqi economists in Baghdad, Qalibaf stressed that economic strength is essential to sustaining national security.
‘We Will Not Be Able to Endure’
Qalibaf said that regardless of how powerful Iran’s military becomes, the country cannot remain resilient if its people face hunger and the economy lacks growth, financial activity and domestic production.
He argued that military capabilities must therefore be accompanied by a functioning economy capable of supporting both the population and the state over the long term.
Economy and Security ‘Two Wings’
The parliament speaker described security and the economy as “two wings” that depend on each other, saying neither can remain sustainable without the other.
According to Qalibaf, instability discourages investment, while security without sufficient economic development cannot be maintained indefinitely.
His remarks underscore the importance Iranian officials are placing on economic resilience as the country faces pressure on its economy, with Qalibaf emphasizing that national strength ultimately depends not only on military capabilities but also on economic growth, production and the welfare of the population.
