Vile new low for crime-ridden Kansas City as distraught man, 65, is shot in the head after confronting two men who'd just run over his cat

By WILL POTTER, US SENIOR NEWS REPORTER Published: 19:48, 29 July 2026 | Updated: 19:50, 29 July 2026 A devastated 65-year-old man was shot in the head after confronting two men who ran over his cat in their car, police say.  The victim, who has not been publicly identified, was shot on Sunday evening in Kansas City, Missouri, the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office said.  The shooting unfolded outside Atchinson Hospital, and the man miraculously survived his injuries.  He told deputies at the hospital that he witnessed two black men in a car run over his cat, leading to a violent altercation.  He said the two men exited their car, and one pulled out a gun and shot him in the head before beating him with a bicycle frame, per Fox4. The victim was then air transported to KU Medical Center for treatment, while authorities launched an urgent manhunt for the two men.  The suspects have not been apprehended, however the sheriff's office said it has issued several search warrants.  The investigation is ongoing.
