UK petrol and diesel drivers can get £10 off fuel if you bank with Barclays
British bank Barclays and supermarket giant Tesco have unveiled a joint cashback scheme as Britons grapple with the steepest diesel costs since the outbreak of the Ukraine war in February 2022. The cashback deal will allow Barclays customers to collect 5% cashback on fuel transactions between £5 and £200 made with an eligible personal Barclays debit card at Tesco petrol stations from May 1 through to July 31. The move arrives against a backdrop of rocketing fuel costs partly driven by the ongoing turmoil in the Middle East. America and Israel have conducted joint military operations targeting several key Iranian locations since February 28. Tehran responded by launching strikes at sites throughout the Middle East and shutting down the vital Strait of Hormuz shipping lane, which handles 20% of the world's oil trade. Washington and Tehran have reached a temporary ceasefire agreement, though the strait's closure persists. America has additionally established a blockade around Iranian ports in the strait, attempting to cripple Iran's economy, force the reopening of the waterway and advance long-term peace talks. Petrol prices remained static over the weekend for motorists nationwide, the Mirror reports. Data from motoring organisation the RAC showed the national average for unleaded sitting at 157.17p per litre on Monday, with diesel at 189.23p. Both figures were virtually unchanged from Friday. According to figures released by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero on 28 April, the average cost per litre of ultra low sulphur unleaded petrol across the UK stood at 156.99p, while ultra low sulphur diesel averaged 189.81p per litre. Fuel prices at Tesco were as follows as of 28 April: The Barclays-Tesco offer is capped at £10 per calendar month per customer.المصدر: Mirror | Source: Mirror
