UCLA sorority sister dies in freak fall through open window along Seattle trail

Dayanara Nicole Urbina Ruiz, 21, fell out of an open window in a building near the Burke-Gilman trail. According to the King County Medical Examiner's Office, she died from multiple blunt force injuries on July 30.  King 5 reported that the death was deemed accidental. The trail is considered a multi-use path that stretches for nearly 20 miles through Seattle's cityscape from Shilshole Bay to the City of Bothell.  Ruiz was a communications major who was working as a summer marketing intern at Amazon Web Services in Seattle.  'We're deeply saddened by the passing of one of our Amazon colleagues, and we offer our heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones. We're focused on providing support services to her family and teammates during this difficult time,' an Amazon spokesperson said.  She was also a member of UCLA's Phi Lambda Rho sorority and co-president of UCLA's first fashion club, Fashion and Student Trends (FAST).  Dayanara Nicole Urbina Ruiz, 21, was killed on July 30 after she accidentally fell from an open window in a building along the Burke-Gilman trail According to the King County Medical Examiner's Office, Ruiz death was from multiple blunt force injuries and ruled as accidental Ruiz was a communications major at UCLA working as a summer marketing intern at Amazon Web Services in Seattle. She was also a member of UCLA's Phi Lambda Rho sorority and co-president of a UCLA fashion club The sorority posted on Instagram in memory of their sister, saying she was a 'bright light, a gentle soul, and someone whose kindness touched everyone around her.'  It went on to mention how she was always there for those in need, offering support and compassion. FAST, also posted on Instagram, saying Ruiz was an 'infectious light who poured so much of herself' into the organization. 'She fought tirelessly to make FAST a better place for all of us.' Ruiz had previously been the club's Finance Co-Director who worked on allocating funds and accumulating finances for events. The club was founded in 2001 and allowed students a place to showcase their fashion talents to make up for the school's lack of fashion design major or minor. They would hold an annual 'industry level' Spring runway show along with workshops, events and networking opportunities.  The Urbina Ruiz family has created a GoFundMe aimed to help with funeral and memorial costs. The fundraiser has reached over $21,000 as of August 4. 'She was a bright light and a gentle soul,' the post wrote. The circumstances of Ruiz's death remain uncertain at this time.  The Daily Mail reached out to the King's County Sheriff's office for comment.
