Two British women, 18, 'are raped by tourism worker' on Greek holiday island

By PERKIN AMALARAJ, FOREIGN NEWS REPORTER Published: 16:24, 17 August 2026 | Updated: 16:25, 17 August 2026 Police are investigating allegations that a tourism worker raped two British women on the Greek holiday island of Zakynthos.  The women, both aged 18, told police they met the man during a trip to the island.  Following the alleged attack, they both took themselves to hospital to undergo treatment and examination.  They also called their families about the matter. Upon learning of the alleged attack, the mother of one of the women flew out to Greece and tracked the accused man down at his place of work.  Tensions quickly soared and the mother attacked him, forcing cops to intervene.  Cops are now looking into the allegations and the investigation is ongoing.  In July, an 18-year-old British teenager accused a 50-year-old security guard of sexually assaulting her while she was on holiday in Malia, Crete.   The tourist claimed that a man, who did not know her, stopped her in the early hours of Tuesday morning outside a hotel. He then took her to a secluded spot, where he raped her, she alleged. Cops were able to locate the suspect and arrested him on Tuesday afternoon. The suspect works as a security guard and is local to the Heraklion area of the island, according to local reports. That case came amid reports that an 18-year-old woman was raped in Crete by a fellow British holidaymaker after she was followed into the bathroom of a bar in June.   After the alleged incident was reported to the Greek police, a 19-year-old was arrested and transferred to Heraklion's courthouse. It is believed the woman met the alleged attacker once before meeting him again in a bar in Malia but had not maintained 'friendly relations', according to the local media outlet Cretalive. The Brit claimed the young man then led her to the bathroom of the bar, situated in the island's bustling party town, where he proceeded to allegedly rape her. The 19-year-old tourist is said to have denied the charges against him and claimed that they had consensual intercourse. The Daily Mail has contacted the UK's Foreign Office for comment.
