ALBAWABA - Trump has warmed up U.S.-North Korean relations, a country whom the U.S. has no official diplomatic ties with, saying that he was planning to meet with Kim later this year – something which Kim’s sister denied.
Earlier, Trump scaled down U.S. military exercises with South Korea, a state which has the biggest U.S. overseas military base, and which is technically at war with its northern counterpart having never signed a peace deal.
Trump said that the exercise was scaled down because S. Korea did not help the U.S. with its war in Iran, and also because he said he had a good relationship with N. Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, saying in a press conference:
"I get along with him well. And you know what? The fact that I get along with him, that’s a very good thing, not a bad thing.
“As long as we have a smart president, he’s going to be fine,” he said.
Adding that the North Korean dictator had exactly 57 nuclear warheads at his disposal; something which was not publicly known until the statement was made.
Trump instructed his aides to set up a personal meeting with the dictator, potentially during his visit to the far east for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Shenzhen, China, in November.
Kim Jong Un’s sister, however, cast doubts on Trump’s intentions and the meeting itself, saying she knew “absolutely nothing” of the meeting between the two leaders, adding:
“The United States’ hostile policy toward the DPRK has not changed, and the United States and its followers are vigorously carrying out hostile military activities against the DPRK even at this very moment,” in a statement carried by North Korean state media.
Later, she walked back her statements, saying that Kim has “personally good memories and feelings” toward the U.S. President.
Adding, “perhaps it is the only matter I do not know about in relation to our supreme leadership’s foreign policy.”
