Emergency services were called to the northbound lanes of the Hume Highway at Breadalbane, about 32km south-west of Goulburn, on Friday at 4.10am following reports of a heavy vehicle crash and fire. When Fire and Rescue NSW arrived, firefighters discovered both vehicles had been destroyed in the blaze. Police were told a B-double carrying aerosol cans had broken down on the Hume Highway when a second heavy vehicle collided with its rear. The road train driver, a 31-year-old man, was treated at the scene for minor injuries, before being taken to Yass hospital for mandatory testing. The body of the second driver, who has yet to be formally identified, was found by emergency services at the scene. NSW Police Superintendent Linda Bradbury said preliminary investigations indicated the B-double had experienced mechanical issues and broke down on the road. 'The 31-year-old male driver of that B-double has gotten out, activated all his hazard requirements, and notified other drivers on a radio that he had broken down in lane one,' she told reporters.
