Trent Alexander-Arnold's status as Real Madrid's first-choice right-back has been boosted amid reports that Dani Carvajal may have played his final game for the club. Carvajal has fractured his foot, and with the end of the season fast approaching and his contract winding down, he could be shown the exit. Carvajal has suffered a fracture to the fifth toe on his right foot and it is estimated he will be unavailable for two to three weeks. The 34-year-old missed the 2-0 away win over Espanyol on Sunday and is facing a race against time to make it back onto the pitch this month. His season has been hampered by injuries, with knee and muscle problems limiting him to just 20 appearances across all competitions. Alexander-Arnold has played 27 times since in 2025/26 since moving from Liverpool and is cementing his place in the side. Carvajal has played 448 times for Real over a 13-year spell with the club, where he also came through the academy. He is considered a legend at Los Blancos, but it seems his time there is about to come to an end. FOLLOW OUR REAL MADRID FB PAGE! Latest news and more on our dedicated Facebook page His age and injury problems mean that Real are not planning to renew his contract, which expires at the end of June. Marca reports that his latest injury 'effectively ends his career', with any chance of making the Spain squad for the World Cup also having disappeared. However, speaking after the win over Espanyol, Real manager Alvaro Arbeloa said: "I’m really hoping he can play before the end of the season, that he can recover and finish the season playing on the pitch, which is what Dani Carvajal deserves, right?" It will be a summer of change at Real as they near the end of a disappointing campaign which will see them go without a trophy. Arbeloa, who stepped in to replace Xabi Alonso in January, looks set to be replaced, with Jose Mourinho among the candidates . Yet it seems certain that Alexander-Arnold will remain in place and as first choice at right-back. He has contributed five assists this season and will be hoping to stay injury-free in 2026/27, having been hampered by issues himself. The 27-year-old has missed 22 matches for Real this season due to injury, according to Transfermarkt, and appears unlikely to make the England squad for the World Cup. Thomas Tuchel left him out of the most recent squads to face Uruguay and Japan in friendlies in April and prefers others in his position. Alexander-Arnold reacted to the snub by posting "Madrid, nothing else" on Instagram , a response that Tuchel described as "fair enough". He explained the decision not to call him up by saying: "It was a slightly different profile of players who were with us in camp and who performed so well. "We just stick to these guys that is on his back and maybe he was with us in June and he should have maybe deserved a second chance. It is a very hard decision. I'm aware of it, but yeah, he took it on his chin. He will keep on going." Join our new MAN UTD WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Manchester United content from Mirror Football.
