'This is two-tier Keir!' Tory MP left outraged at Britain's police being 'brainwashed' by 'anti-racism'

Esther McVey has hit out at Sir Keir Starmer over the latest case of "two-tier policing" in Britain, following the murder of Henry Nowak.

Speaking to GB News, the Conservative MP criticised Britain's police forces for becoming "brainwashed" by the "anti-racism agenda" and DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion).

Following the murder of 18-year-old Henry Nowak, it has been revealed that his killer Vickrum Digwa was arrested and released without charge in 2023 after being accused of stealing £1,000 worth of ceremonial "shaster" knives from a Southampton Sikh temple.

He was later banned from the same temple because they believed he was a "dangerous monster".

Reacting to the revelation about Digwa, Ms McVey reflected on the Southampton protests on Tuesday evening amid the outrage caused by the treatment of a dying Henry Nowak by police.

Ms McVey told GB News: "There is absolutely no justification for attacking the police, because most police officers are trying to do the right job.

"And I feel sorry for some of the police officers who had to be brainwashed to think that racism, multiculturalism, political correctness, they had to adhere to. So we have to stop that straight away."

The Tory MP argued: "But to have found out that Digwa had not even so long ago basically been let off, they knew he'd stolen those knives and yet he wasn't sentenced in some way or another.

"And this is the two-tier Keir policing that we all talk about."

Noting Sir Keir Starmer and Shabana Mahmood's reactions to Mr Nowak's murder, Ms McVey criticised the Labour figures for "not going far enough" in their statements.

She told GB News: "I don't believe Shabana Mahmood in her statement went far enough. To say we're going to get rid of this DEI now, we're going to get rid of anybody not doing policing in the streets, she should have come out stronger on that.

"Keir Starmer should have been standing side by side with the Nowak family to say this is unacceptable. So I think they haven't played it well at all."

The Tory MP argued that as a result of the Henry Nowak case, DEI policing has "come to a crescendo".

She explained: "I've said for many years, people have gone down this path of political correctness, about justification, but I've said that it is wrong.

"And I'm saying what has happened now, Keir and the Home Secretary have not played it well at all, and this has now come to a crescendo."

Ms McVey concluded that Britain's police force has been "captivated by DEI", leading to the "downfall of our country".

She said: "It's infected the police force and it's infected most of our institutions. We seem to have got captivated by DEI, by critical theories, whether that was race or gender, and all to the downfall of this country.

"What we need people to do is their job, not to be swayed because they have a particular view on a race or gender, and that's where we've got ourselves to. So when people talk about two-tier, well there is a two-tier here - every single police force signed up to being 'anti-racist'."

In a statement, a spokesman for the Independent Office for Police Conduct said: "As part of our ongoing investigation, we are reviewing a large amount of police body-worn footage which we need to consider the context with other evidence that we've obtained, including review material presented during the murder trial as we establish the full circumstances.

"The officers involved are currently being treated as witnesses, however, as with all investigations, this is kept under review throughout."
