Tense moment former partner of Jana Armstrong is arrested in his dingy room - as he is charged with murder

Queensland Police released bodycam footage of the incident on Sunday following the discovery of human remains in the search for 30-year-old Jana Armstrong. Ms Armstrong, who has a four-month-old boy, was last seen at a unit on Gordon Avenue in the Toowoomba suburb of Newtown, south-east Queensland, on Tuesday. Her white Hyundai Kona was found on the corner of Jellicoe Street and Gordon Avenue about 6am on Wednesday. Following an intense search, her body was found in bushland off Esk Hampton Road at Redbank Creek on Saturday night. A 48-year-old man was taken into custody early on Sunday morning and charged with one count of murder (domestic violence offence). He will appear at Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Monday.  The man has since been identified as Dharminder Singh, the former partner of Ms Armstrong, with the pair sharing a child.  Bodycam footage of the arrest showed officers knocking on the front door and demanding it be opened at 4am. Moments later, police scaled the stairs up to the second floor and opened several doors before finding Singh lying on a single-sized bed. The room appeared to be scarcely furnished, with a towel discarded on the ground and a dining chair used as a bedside table. A tube of toothpaste, toothbrush, mobile phone and glass of water were seen resting on it. Singh lifted himself off his visibly stained bedsheets and held out his hands as officers placed handcuffs around his wrists. He was later seen sitting on a dining chair as officers stood around him. Darling Downs acting detective inspector Brian Collins revealed there were no previous domestic violence orders in place prior to Ms Armstrong's death. 'I don't think there's anything police could have done to prevent this at all,' he said. 'People in the community would be horrified that a young lady, a 30-year-old with a four-month-old child, has had her life (allegedly) taken - and rightfully so.' Detective Inspector Collins said Singh had initially been questioned by police while search teams looked for Ms Armstrong, and that he had been released without charge. 'He provided a statement as a witness,' he said. Ms Armstrong's body was found by a group hunting wild pigs. 'As a result, police attended, and a crime scene was declared,' Detective Inspector Collins said. 'We believe that that person is in fact Jana… we do not know the cause of death at this time.' Ms Armstrong's cousins, Lara and Hannah Sweedman, visited the site where their relative's body was discovered. Ms Armstrong had shared brunch with her younger sister, Faith Isaacs on Tuesday morning and police have since released CCTV footage of her arrival at the cafe 'We knew deep down she was never coming home to us,' Lara said. 'We are shattered, we are heartbroken, but we are really grateful we get to bring our beautiful cousin Jana home so we can lay her to rest in the way she deserves. 'It's not the breakthrough we wanted at all.' Ms Armstrong's younger sister Faith Isaacs took to social media to share her heartbreak following news her sibling had been found dead.  'It is with a completely broken heart that I share we have now been advised my beautiful sister Jana has been found deceased,' she posted on Facebook. 'There are simply no words to describe the heartbreak and devastation I am feeling.  'Losing my beautiful sister in this way is something I will never be able to understand or put into words.' Ms Isaacs thanked emergency services and members of the public for helping in the search. The Homicide Investigation Unit, which provides support in missing persons cases, was among the specialist police assisting the search for Ms Armstrong alongside SES crews Ms Armstrong's white Hyundai Kona was found on the corner of Jellicoe Street and Gordon Avenue about 6am on Wednesday 'The love and support shown for my sister and our family has been overwhelming, and I will never be able to thank you all enough,' she said. 'My beautiful Jana deserved so much more. She was so deeply loved and will be missed beyond words. 'I promise you, Jana, your beautiful baby boy will always know exactly who his mummy was, how deeply you loved him and just how incredibly special you were.  'I will speak your name, share your stories and keep your memory alive for him every single day. I will never, ever let him forget his beautiful mummy. 'I love you forever, my beautiful sister. Until we meet again.' A friend told Daily Mail Ms Armstrong had shared brunch with Ms Isaacs, whose newborn daughter is terminally ill, on Tuesday morning, hours before her disappearance.  Sorry we are not currently accepting comments on this article.
