Teenage girl, 17, dies after suffering 'medical episode' at Kendal Calling festival

The 17-year-old passed away in the early hours of this morning after suffering the medical episode at around 2.15AM. Despite emergency care being given as soon as she fell ill, the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene. Cumbria Police are now looking into the circumstances and have asked for anyone in the Calling Out tent area and the Big Wheel at the time of the episode to get in contact.  Kendal Calling said that they are 'deeply saddened' by the young girl's passing and are working with authorities on the investigation. They added that the teenager was immediately attended to by the on-site security and medical teams as soon as she became unwell.  The force's spokesperson said: 'Officers are particularly keen to speak with a group of women who alerted first responders to the girl after becoming concerned for her welfare.'  The teenager's family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.  A 17-year-old passed away in the early hours of this morning after suffering a medical episode at Kendal Calling festival (pictured in 2019) Kendal Calling said: 'The team at Kendal Calling are deeply saddened by the passing of a festival attendee in the early hours of Sunday morning following a medical episode. 'As soon as the individual became unwell, they were immediately attended to by our on-site security and medical teams. 'Paramedics and medical personnel provided emergency care at the scene and did everything they could to help. 'We extend our deepest sympathies to the individual's family, friends and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.  'We are supporting the relevant authorities and will continue to assist them with their investigation.' Kendal Calling is an independent music and arts festival that takes place every year in the Lake District, with more than 40,000 people attending the event this summer.  Headliners this year include The Kooks, Biffy Clyro, Wolf Alice and Two Door Cinema Club.  This is a breaking story, more to follow.
