Teenage boy accused of kidnapping a girl, 17, outside her school to marry her 'against her will' faces court

The details were revealed in court documents released after Ayom Deng, 18, faced Melbourne Magistrates Court. He was arrested in Melbourne's west about 10am on Wednesday over the alleged abduction near Keysborough Secondary College in Springvale South. Police said a 17-year-old girl was entering the school about 8.30am on Friday last week when she was approached by a male, who allegedly forced her into a vehicle before fleeing. Deng, who was on bail at the time, is alleged to have been driving the vehicle. He faced court late on Wednesday after being charged with abduction, kidnapping, false imprisonment and committing an indictable offence while on bail. His defence lawyer said Deng had been diagnosed with PTSD, it was not his first time in custody and he was vulnerable due to his age and appearance. He did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody to reappear for a committal mention on September 23. Deng is further accused of driving on a highway without a driver's licence or permit allowing him to drive. After the allegations emerged last week, a spokesperson for the Victorian Department of Education told the Daily Mail it was supporting the girl's family. 'The Department of Education is aware of an incident that occurred outside Keysborough Secondary College on Friday morning,' a statement said.
