Ted Turner, media mogul and former Atlanta Braves owner, dies at 87

Ted Turner, the media mogul who owned the Atlanta Braves for decades and used his cable empire to boost the team’s visibility throughout the United States, has died at the age of 87, a family spokesperson said Wednesday.The creator of CNN and eventual founder of TBS and TNT, which became must-have channels for sports fans, Turner purchased the Braves in 1976 and presided over the team during its 1995 World Series championship and 1996 construction of Turner Field, which was also an important venue during the Atlanta Olympics.This story will be updated.
