Sydney Sweeney returns in “The Housemaid’s Secret” set for December 2027

ALBAWABA - Sydney Sweeney returns in The Housemaid sequel.

"The Housemaid's Secret," a sequel to last year's box office hit, will be released in theaters on December 17, 2027.

That's exactly two years after the first movie, "The Housemaid," came out. It was a big hit, making nearly $400 million worldwide on a $35 million budget. That movie only made $19 million in its first weekend, but it was a big hit all through the holidays.

The company that made the twisted R-rated suspense thriller is putting it in as counterprogramming during the busy Christmas corridor. "The Housemaid's Secret" is set to come out on the same day as "Avengers: Secret Wars" and "Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum," both of which are male-focused series.

Sydney Sweeney and Michele Morrone, who were both in the first movie, are back for the second one. Kirsten Dunst will be in the movie. The sequel to Freida McFadden's best-selling book picks up with Millie from Sweeney, who was hired in the first story to be the live-in maid for a wealthy family with a dark secret. She now has a job "keeping house for a woman she's never allowed to see—only to discover the truth behind the locked door that threatens to expose secrets far darker than her own."

Late this year, filming for "The Housemaid's Secret" will begin. Paul Feig is back to direct the movie with Rebecca Sonnenshine, who wrote the script based on the first book. Fifty-Fifty Films is where Feig works with Todd Lieberman of Hidden Pictures, Laura Fischer of Pretty Dangerous, and Sweeney to make movies.

The movie studio Lionsgate wants to make “The Housemaid” into a big movie series. They also want to adapt more of McFadden's work in the future. There is a third book called “The Housemaid Is Watching."

The upcoming period novel adaptation that Sydney Sweeney is playing will be her best role yet.
