By LUCY MANLY, SENIOR NEWS REPORTER, AUSTRALIA Published: 10:39, 16 August 2026 | Updated: 10:42, 16 August 2026 A Sydney mother has issued a chilling warning to other parents after her six-year-old son found a needle inside the pocket of a brand-new pair of trousers from Kmart. Hannah said on social media on Saturday that the clothing had been bought from Kmart's Nepean Square shopping centre store in Penrith, in Sydney's west. She said her son had only just put on the trousers when he made the alarming discovery. 'When he put them on, he reached into the pocket and immediately came out and told us there was a syringe or needle,' she wrote. 'Thankfully, he had the sense to tell us straight away and, as far as we know, he wasn't injured by it. 'I can't even imagine what could have happened if he had put his hand into the pocket and been pricked by the needle. 'These were brand new pants, straight from the store – not second-hand clothing.' Daily Mail has contacted Kmart for comment about the claims.  The syringe a mother claims she found in trousers purchased in a Sydney Kmart The mother said her six-year-old son discovered it when he put the trousers on (stock image) Hannah urged other parents to be vigilant following the alleged discovery.  'I'm sharing this purely as a warning to other parents,' she said. 'Please check the pockets of new clothing before allowing your children to wear them, particularly younger kids who may naturally put their hands into their pockets. 'We will obviously be contacting Kmart to report this because a needle or syringe making its way into a brand-new garment is an extremely serious safety issue.' The post has since been reshared 178 times on Facebook, as parents reacted to the alarming discovery. Hannah's discovery comes several months after a Northern Rivers mother made a concerning find in a children's jumper from a separate Kmart store.  Angela wrote in a social media post to a Lismore noticeboard that she had found 'unknown substances' in the pocket of a Los Angeles Lakers hoodie she bought for her seven-year-old son in November last year.  She included a photo of two small bags, one bearing smiley face emojis and one with a picture of a marijuana leaf, according to The Chronicle. A Northern Rivers mother said she found two small bags, one bearing smiley face emojis and one with a picture of a marijuana leaf, in a jumper bought from a Lismore Kmart 'Check your kids' clothes before buying them... nothing is safe from these grubs anymore,' Angela said on social media.  'Disgusted is an understatement. I feel physically ill.' The mother said she was sharing the discovery to warn other parents, particularly given the possibility that a child could have found the bags. 'Wanted to put the word out because god forbid a child finds this instead of an adult,' she said.  'There is still powder in the bags.' Ms Holden said she would report the discovery to management at Lismore Square Shopping Centre. She added that the matter had also been reported to local police. Daily Mail has also contacted Kmart for comment about Angela's claim.
