Sydney Airport unveils $20 'Fast Track' pass - but Aussie passengers question whether it's worth the fee

The scheme allows passengers to purchase access to a priority queue before security screening at Terminal One departures. It aims to 'reduce stress, save time and enable customers to move through the airport more efficiently during peak travel periods', according to the airport website. 'Fast Track is part of our broader investment in improving the passenger journey by giving passengers more choice, reducing friction and helping people move through the airport more easily,' Sydney Airport Group Executive in Commercial Mark Zaouk said. The policy operates separately from the existing priority screening access provided to eligible First Class, Business Class, and frequent flyer passengers. However, it will not guarantee faster processing through security, border control, or other airport processes. The pass can be purchased in advance through the Sydney Airport Fast Track booking page, including on the day of travel. But some Australians have questioned whether the pass is worth the $20 fee. 'However, there will be many who will use it, which means there will be fewer people in the "not Fast Track" queue.' Another added: 'For $20, I would want my own screeners.' Other passengers have said they wished Sydney Airport addressed different issues instead of the fast-tracking passengers. 'Can you move the domestic shuttle pickup back to where it was for offsite car parks?' one person said. 'The walk from the terminal to the new pickup location is almost half the distance to the shuttle's destination!' A second passenger said: 'Please fix international arrivals. Waiting for luggage for close to an hour is unacceptable when comparable airports around the world can deliver bags much faster.' According to Sydney Airport's website, the launch of the 'Fast Track' pass forms part of the airport's broader upgrade program.  The improvements include new SmartGate technology, terminal upgrades and digital services such as Digital Concierge, which are designed to deliver faster and more seamless travel experiences.  Once passengers book the pass, they receive a QR code granting access to the priority queue before security screening in the departures terminal.
