Super Eagles : Éric Chelle convoque Chibuike Nwaiwu pour remplacer Calvin Bassey

Un nouveau joueur est appelé au Nigeria. À la suite du forfait de Calvin Bassey, pilier récent des Super Eagles, le sélectionneur Éric Chelle a décidé de convoquer pour la première fois Chibuike Nwaiwu.

Chibuike Nwaiwu découvre pour la première fois la sélection du Nigeria. Encore inconnu du grand public il y a peu, il connaît une progression remarquable. Formé à Enyimba FC, il a franchi un cap en rejoignant Wolfsberger AC en 2024, où il s’est illustré jusqu’à remporter la Coupe d’Autriche.

Ses performances ont rapidement attiré l’attention de plusieurs clubs européens, avant qu’il ne s’engage finalement avec Trabzonspor pour 5,5 millions d’euros. En Turquie, le défenseur de 22 ans s’est imposé comme un élément fiable, avec déjà des statistiques intéressantes (12 matchs, 2 buts, 1 passe décisive).

Un profil complet pour séduire Chelle

Du haut de ses 1,93 m, Nwaiwu impressionne par sa présence physique et sa domination dans les duels aériens. Mais son profil ne s’arrête pas là. Polyvalent, il peut évoluer en charnière centrale, sur les côtés ou même en milieu défensif.

Sa capacité à relancer proprement et à participer à la construction du jeu correspond parfaitement à la philosophie de Éric Chelle, qui privilégie une sortie de balle maîtrisée.

Cette convocation intervient dans un contexte particulier, avec deux matchs amicaux au programme face à l’Iran le 27 mars et la Jordanie le 31 mars à Antalya. Une occasion en or pour le jeune défenseur de marquer des points et s’inscrire durablement dans la rotation des Super Eagles.
