By JAMES GORDON, US NEWS REPORTER Published: 04:21, 30 June 2026 | Updated: 04:21, 30 June 2026 A television news reporter is walking away from the newsroom and into ministry, revealing she is leaving journalism behind to dedicate her life to studying the Bible and sharing her Christian faith. Sophia Petrovich, a reporter for Nashville's ABC affiliate WKRN, announced Sunday that she is stepping away from television news after roughly six years in the industry, saying her growing relationship with Christianity has completely reshaped her future. The journalist, who has spent the past year covering stories across Tennessee, told followers that although she has loved every minute of reporting, her heart has been pulled in a different direction. 'I have loved news for so many years. Getting to tell stories, be so ingrained in my community and work alongside some of the best in the business has filled my heart to the brim! Not to mention, getting to meet some of the coolest people ever!!' Petrovich wrote in Instagram post announcing her departure. But she said months of immersing herself in scripture have transformed her priorities. 'Over the last year, my heart has fallen in love with the Bible and all I want to do is study His word, and make sense of the radical love story that is the gospel,' she declared. 'So although I'll always love news, the sole desire of my heart is to minister to people, share Jesus and study His word!' Petrovich acknowledged she does not yet know exactly where her new path will lead but said she is placing her faith in God to guide her next steps. WKRN reporter Sophia Petrovich announced she is leaving TV journalism to pursue Bible study and ministry Petrovich wrote that she has 'fallen in love with the Bible' over the past year. She said the 'sole desire' of her heart is now to 'minister to people, share Jesus and study His word.' The departing reporter said telling stories and serving her community had 'filled my heart to the brim' 'I'm not sure what the future holds for me and my love for ministry, but not a lot of people in the Bible knew what they were being called to until they were there,' she wrote. 'I just trust Jesus to open and close doors! He is FAITHFUL! I can't wait for the journey ahead!' The announcement marks the end of her stint at WKRN, where she spent more than a year reporting on stories across the Nashville area. Her departure also closes the chapter on a journalism career that began shortly after she graduated from Clemson University in 2020. Before joining the Nashville station, Petrovich worked at WSPA 7NEWS, the CBS affiliate serving parts of North Carolina and South Carolina, where she built her reporting experience covering local news. In recent months, however, followers had already begun noticing a shift in the type of content appearing on her social media accounts. Since February, Petrovich has regularly shared videos documenting her Christian faith, explaining that she had been reading the Bible 'every single day' for the previous six months. Her Instagram feed has increasingly focused on topics including Bible study, premarital counseling, 'being clothed with Christ' and discussions surrounding end-times theories, signaling a gradual transition away from news reporting and toward faith-based content. Petrovich shared the news in an Instagram post on Sunday after spending more than a year at the Nashville ABC affiliate Before joining WKRN, Petrovich worked at WSPA 7NEWS, a CBS affiliate serving parts of North Carolina and South Carolina Petrovich is pictured on her honeymoon. She recently got married Since February, Petrovich has posted Bible-focused videos on her Instagram. She previously told followers she had been reading the Bible 'every single day' for the last 6 months The career change drew an outpouring of support from friends and fellow journalists. Fox News reporter Olivianna Calmes commented: 'No better reason to change careers! I'm in full support!' Joe Breezy, an on-air personality with 99.7 Atlanta, praised Petrovich's decision, writing: 'Good for you for being courageous enough to follow your path! Wishing you all the best!!' WKRN colleague Katelyn Quisenberry also offered her encouragement, commenting: 'Miss you already…But so excited for you!!!' No comments have so far been submitted.
