Soulmate couple aged 101 and 100 who've been married 80 years still go on breakfast date to McDonald's once a week

Every Friday, 101-year-old John Carroll and his wife Jerry, 100, share breakfast at a Tennessee McDonald's.  They are familiar faces at the Murfreesboro location near the corner of Compton Road and Memorial Boulevard.  They catch up with friends over the same go-to breakfast meal. 'We have breakfast down here every Friday morning with our friends,' John, a World War II veteran, told News Channel 5.  'For breakfast we usually eat the egg McMuffin with sausage,' the veteran added. The pair likes to add a slice of tomato to spice up their sandwich. The breakfast bunch has grown and changed over the years, John said, but they still gather in the back of the restaurant.  They're welcomed warmly by the staff every week.  Jerry, 100, and John, 101, Carroll have been married for 80 years Every Friday they go to a Tennessee McDonald's with friends and eat breakfast 'We just love them,' general manager Christina Crisp told the outlet. 'They've been here for a long time.' The couple recently celebrated two milestones - Jerry's 100th birthday on June 28 and their 80th anniversary on April 18. The soulmate pair have shared more years together than McDonald's has served its iconic breakfast.  John told KOCO News their decades together have included plenty of challenges and joyful moments.  They say treating each other well and working hard has kept their marriage strong.  'Treat your wife nice,' John told the outlet. 'Try to help her all you can and work hard. That's all we've had our ups and downs over the years, but we still made it.' Ahead of his 101st birthday last December, the war veteran shared his secret to a long life with News Channel 5.  The couple eats breakfast every Friday morning with a group in the back of the restaurant The pair recently celebrated Jerry's 101st birthday John credits exercise as the key to living a long, healthy life. 'Up until recently, I was coming in here sitting on the floor at four in the morning and touching my toes,' the 101-year-old said in his living room back in 2025. And he's still keeping up the fitness routine.  'Did my toe touches 200 times this morning at 4am,' he told the outlet.
