Soulé: ‘I couldn’t keep going like this, important Inter-Roma’

Matias Soulé reveals why he realised he ‘couldn’t keep going like this’ playing with anti-inflammatories, as he returns for Roma’s ‘very important’ trip to Inter.

Soulé returns after long Roma lay-off

“I was disappointed not to be fit for the recent games, but my teammates gave their all, and we have a lot of injuries,” Soulé told DAZN Italia.

“We hope to get a result tonight, as it is important for us and for the Serie A table, as there are many teams battling for a Champions League spot. Inter are challenging for the Scudetto, so it’ll be an intriguing game.”

Soulé returns for the first time since February 15, but Wesley picked up a muscular injury on international duty with Brazil and will be out for a month.

He joins long-term absentees Paulo Dybala, Manu Koné, Artem Dovbyk and Evan Ferguson on the treatment table.

“As the days go by, I feel better and better, as I was playing for two or three months using anti-inflammatories and after the Napoli game I realised I just couldn’t keep going like this,” explained the Argentine.

“I worked in training and today feel better, even if the lesion is not completely healed. I hope to help my teammates and the fans tonight.”

Roma have struggled in the big games and were beaten 1-0 at home by Inter last time out, despite a strong performance.

“We played really well last time against Inter, conceding an avoidable goal, but then had many chances to equalise. We must be concentrated and play to our best, as tonight is very important.”
