Published: 02:55, 14 April 2026 | Updated: 03:23, 14 April 2026 Nevada residents were rocked by a sizable earthquake Monday night. The 5.7-magnitude earthquake with a six-mile depth was reported at 6.29pm, about 11 miles southeast of Silver Springs, Nevada, near Reno, according to the US Geological Survey. It was originally labeled as a 5.5-magnitude quake, but was quickly upgraded as hundreds of residents reported that their lights started to shake. The quake was then followed by a 3.6-magnitude aftershock at 6.32pm, another 2.8-magnitude quake one minute later and a 3.0-magnitude quake at 6.35pm.  Residents quickly took to social media to share their experiences. 'Bad earthquake in Reno just now 5.7 my entire house shook as if it was coming off foundation,' wrote Georgia Mathers, a special education teacher in the city dubbed 'the biggest little city in the world.' Another Reno resident shared that she felt her chair start rocking and watched as a few things fell, while a third noted 'this one lasted quite some time.' 'I still subconsciously feel it,' the X user posted.  Reno, Nevada, near where the earthquake struck Monday night, is pictured Are we truly prepared for a major earthquake in our cities, or are we just hoping for the best? What's your view?Californians also shared that they felt the tremor, all the way from Modesto in the south to Grass Valley in the north, CBS Sacramento reports.  Those in the state capital of Sacramento even received a ShakeAlert notification about the quake.  There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, but officials will continue to assess the damage in the coming hours.  The comments below have not been moderated.
