Sindh minister urges protection of heritage on 'World Heritage Day'

Sindh's Minister for Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, has urged collective efforts to preserve cultural heritage, describing it as a shared responsibility, in his message marking World Heritage Day. He said the land of Sindh is home to some of the world's oldest civilisations, and its historic legacy must be protected for future generations. Highlighting key sites, he described Mohenjo-daro and Makli Necropolis as symbols of pride and identity for the province. The minister added that the restoration of ancient archaeological sites and historic landmarks remains a top priority for the provincial government. He said efforts are under way to provide facilities of international standards at heritage sites to promote tourism. Referring to cultural preservation, he noted that the inclusion of the traditional musical instrument "Borundo" in UNESCO's cultural listings is a significant achievement for Sindh. Shah also said the government is working on the conservation and renovation of forts, shrines and historic buildings across the province, while collaborating with international archaeologists to further explore Sindh's heritage. He added that initiatives are being introduced in educational institutions to connect younger generations with their cultural roots. Promoting culture, tourism and antiquities, he said, remains part of the broader vision of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. Established by UNESCO, World Heritage Day is a global celebration held annually on the 18th of April. The day focus on raising awareness about the importance of cultural heritage and the need for its preservation.
