'Susie, do you mind if I take a little excursion here? Do you mind?' Trump recalled asking her in public remarks after he launched the war. 'She's a great woman... I always go to Susie,' the President added.  The President, 80, was well aware that Wiles, 69, was apprehensive of the planned operation in Iran, sources familiar with the exchange told the Daily Mail.  She had concerns surrounding the political cost of a conflict with Iran potentially dragging down his presidency and punishing Republicans in the midterm elections.  Wiles typically is reluctant to express her opinions in front of staff, but she urged anyone who came to her with doubts about the operation to make their opinions known to the President, a source detailed.  When she does clash directly with the Commander-in-Chief, she knows precisely when to step back. 'I have seen them disagree on things,' one source familiar with their relationship dynamics explained to the Daily Mail. 'He will say something, and she will say, 'I don't agree with that,' and Trump will say, 'you don't know what you are talking about,' and she will just walk away. She doesn't push back.' It is a philosophy that sums up Wiles' entire role in the West Wing. 'Her answer is… I can't control what he does, I can control everything else,' the source added. But Trump had made up his mind.  The 'little excursion' would go forward.  Wiles responded by ordering staff to execute his decision. 'For more than a decade, Susie Wiles has faithfully executed the President's vision, never seeking the spotlight and always recognizing that President Trump is the visionary leader elected by the American people,' Danielle Alvarez, a 2024 Trump campaign senior advisor said. Wiles recently celebrated a key milestone in President Donald Trump's administration. 'I am now apparently the longest serving Chief of Staff to President Trump,' she wrote on social media on Friday evening, marking a meeting with the President in the Oval Office. 'Such an honor.'  The quiet observation highlighted Wiles' staying power in the administration as she continues to have the support of the President and enthusiastic support from the West Wing staff. Her rise to becoming Trump's most enduring gatekeeper comes as no surprise to long-time allies. 'I've known Susie since we both worked for Jack Kemp in the 1980s,' said Michael Caputo, a longtime advisor to President Trump. 'If somebody back then told me she would become the longest-serving, most effective presidential chief of staff in modern times, I would have said of course she will. 'President Trump has no greater or more loyal advisor than Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, and the entire administration is grateful for her strong leadership in helping achieve the most successful start to a Presidential term in history,' White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement to the Daily Mail.  Trump's second term is notable for its stability, as the President cycled through four different chiefs of staff in his first term. His first White House chief of staff Reince Priebus served for just 192 days before he exited in the summer of his first year.  Priebus' successor John Kelly was, until recently, Trump's longest serving chief of staff as he served for 520 days until he stepped down in December 2018.    Kelly was succeeded by Mick Mulvaney, who served Trump for 454 days followed by Mark Meadows, who served for 295 days as Trump's last chief of staff in his first term.  Priebus struggled to earn Trump's respect, Kelly hated the job, repeating that he only served out of patriotic duty. After Mulvaney took a hands-off approach during the dramatic impeachment proceedings, Trump brought in Meadows to bring a little more energy to defend him until he left the White House.  Wiles' service has been marked with little drama, driven by a shrewder psychological management of the Oval Office. 'Susie knows how to deal with Trump,' a White House insider told the Daily Mail. 'She doesn't fly too close to the sun so she won't get burned. She has opposed the President many times, but knows which battles to pick.' 'Susie is really good at making the President think that an idea is his,' a second White House insider revealed. She had a rare moment of public controversy after candid comments about the President's 'alcoholic personality' - that she thought were off the record - were published in a Vanity Fair article in the fall.  Trump responded, saying he had full confidence in Wiles, but she has become more guarded around reporters since then. Previous chiefs of staff were more self-serving, a former Trump White House official told the Daily Mail, often viewing their service to the President through historical lenses and feeling that it was their duty to correct or control him. They also failed by trying to control events that were clearly beyond their power.   Wiles is frequently spotted traveling with the President on domestic and foreign trips Wiles is the opposite, sources say, frequently reminding staff that the President is the elected commander-in-chief and that it is their job to execute his decisions. Her primary objective is to make the trains run on time and keep staff from getting distracted.  'They don't try to over-explain or manage the President - they present the facts, offer their view, he makes the decision, and they execute,' a source close to Wiles explained.  Wiles also understands that the President prefers to hear as many opinions as possible before making his decisions.  Surrounded by Trump-tested deputies who have served the President for several years, Wiles enjoys unusual loyalty in the West Wing.  'The difference between the first and second administration is the team the President has built,' a source familiar with the dynamic in the Oval Office told the Daily Mail. 'They've been with him through it all.' She succeeds where other chiefs of staff failed because she does not try to control the President or act as a 'gatekeeper,' one source told the Daily Mail. Yet beneath her low-profile management style lies a sharp survival instinct that has reportedly alienated some allies while keeping her at the center of power. 'Through her cunning skills and ability to avoid blame for everything that has gone wrong, she has survived,' a source close to Trump explained. 'She accepts no blame for anything that goes wrong. So she blames a cabinet secretary or a department head for it.' When political turbulence hits, insiders say, Wiles slips into the background. Another source close to Trump disclosed that she freezes people she deems unnecessary out of calls during times of chaos. The President's phone calls are the exception.  Although she was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year, one DC insider described Wiles as an 'unstoppable force' Wiles frequently directs staff to voice their opinions to the President, making sure he knows how they feel on issues they care about. Wiles did not respond to a request for comment.   Outside detractors often privately express frustration with Wiles, blaming her for any of Trump's decisions that they do not like. But they rarely publicly air their frustrations, for fear of the President's retribution.  Although she was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year, one DC insider described Wiles as an 'unstoppable force.'  The chief of staff continues to maintain a busy schedule while undergoing her cancer treatment, and is frequently spotted traveling with the President while wearing her signature mirrored sunglasses.  'Even while battling cancer, she continues to serve her country with strength and grace. She embodies resilience, sacrifice, and leadership and should be a role model for little girls everywhere,' the source said.
