Scottie Scheffler announcement made after missing out on Cadillac Championship glory to Cameron Young
Scottie Scheffler, the world's leading golfer, has confirmed he will participate in the 3M Open for the first time this summer, tournament organisers revealed on Monday.
The event, Minnesota's sole PGA Tour competition, is scheduled to run from 20-26 July at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine.
The American expressed enthusiasm about his upcoming appearance at the tournament.
"I'm looking forward to playing the 3M Open for the first time," Scheffler said in a statement.
"I've heard great things about the event and I'm excited to get to Minnesota and compete at TPC Twin Cities."
His commitment represents a significant coup for the organisers.
Scheffler has maintained his position at the summit of world golf for an remarkable 155 weeks without interruption.

The 29-year-old's trophy cabinet includes four major championships, having claimed both the PGA Championship and The Open last year.

"He's one of the game's elite players, and his commitment adds even more excitement to what is shaping up to be a strong and competitive field."
The announcement follows Scheffler's unsuccessful bid at the Cadillac Championship, where Cameron Young secured victory with a commanding six-shot margin.
Reflecting on his performance, Scheffler acknowledged his struggles on the greens throughout the tournament.
"I felt like I couldn't really get anything going," he said.
"I was hitting it decent enough. Just putts were going kind of around the hole."
The world number one pointed to a lack of momentum as a key factor in his defeat.

"I hit it pretty nicely to start, just didn't hole the putts I needed to," Scheffler explained.
"I just didn't really get enough momentum going. Wasn't hitting it close enough and wasn't holing those 15 to 20-footers when I needed them."
Despite the disappointment, Scheffler found reasons for optimism from his week's work.
"Overall, some good takeaways from this week," he noted.
The top-ranked player was also generous in his assessment of Young's dominant display, having partnered with the 28-year-old champion for three of the four rounds.
"Cam played fantastic golf all week. I played with him three out of the four days, and he was hitting a lot of quality shots and making putts from anywhere. He was going to be a tough man to beat this week," Scheffler said.
