He was back in work on Monday and paid tribute to his father, claiming "he would've done the same" and added that "radio is a constant companion."‌Matterface took less than two minutes to address the heartbreaking issue before turning attention back to professional matters as he opened up discussions on Liverpool and Arsenal following the weekend's action.‌Prior to that he said he wanted to be "open and honest" as he announced the death of his father, who was nicknamed "Little Pete" by colleague Alan Brazil.‌He said that they were "rather shocking circumstances" before he went on to say how his father introduced him to radio, having been a painter and decorator when Matterface was a child. He went on to say how his father took great pride in his career.He said: "Radio was his friend, I hope it's your friend and it's thanks to him that its always be my friend. I hope today its my brother's friend, my sister's friend and his friends' friend and his wife's friend too, because its important.
