The one-time Auburn deputy mayor had been out on bail for just shy of 50 days before he was arrested and charged with allegedly breaching his bail conditions. He faced bail court on Saturday and was granted bail after being charged with a raft of offences, including destroying or damaging property, dishonestly tampering with a mail receptacle and entering enclosed land without a lawful excuse. As part of his bail conditions, Mehajer must report to Parramatta Police Station three times a week and cannot go within 100m of his former Lidcombe home. The charges stem from a June 25 incident, when Mehajer allegedly damaged a letterbox on Frances Street, Lidcombe, while trying to retrieve a credit card. It is the same house that made headlines around the world in 2015 when Mehajer shut down the street for his lavish wedding to Aysha Learmonth, reportedly costing more than $1million and featuring four helicopters and a fleet of limousines. The property was later sold as part of Mehajer's bankruptcy, and the controversial former property developer has been in and out of jail in the years since. Police allege Mehajer was captured on CCTV at 9.52pm on June 25 'bending and manipulating' the letterbox to reach inside. His lawyer Evan James argued Mehajer was unaware the property had been sold earlier this year and believed he still had permission to collect his mail. 'This was his own former mailbox,' Mr James told the court. 'He served a lengthy period in custody and his assets were taken over by a trustee. 'He had permission from the trustee to attend that property.' Police opposed bail, questioning why Mehajer would allegedly manipulate the letterbox late at night rather than knock on the door. 'This is a man convicted of dealing with identity information, which is often stolen from mailboxes,' Sergeant Jason Tozer told the court. After his previous release on bail, Mehajer took to social media to give his side of the story, telling his 121,000 Instagram followers: 'Grateful that common sense prevailed.' Mehajer was released from jail in July 2025 after spending five years behind bars and remains on parole. He previously served time for lying to a court, as well as back-to-back sentences for a string of other offences, including violent offences against his former partner.
