Pupils have been evacuated from a school in Salford amid a "health and safety" concern, with police in attendance and children told to leave their belongings inside the building. Oasis Academy MediaCityUK, near Salford Quays, warned parents and carers in a letter this morning that the school would remain closed for the rest of the day, reports Manchester Evening News . Pupils left the building to find two police vans parked outside, parents said. The letter reads: "Due to a health and safety site concern, we have made the decision to send all students home for the remainder of the day (May 5). "If your child is due to sit an exam today this change will not impact their results. We will update you as soon as possible with confirmation of when school will reopen. Thank you for your understanding." A resident living nearby said her niece, who was evacuated earlier today, was among a group of pupils who were told to "leave their things" and leave the building. She said: "They went to school as normal and next thing they were in full lockdown, they were told to leave their things and to leave the building. Then told to go home. "There are loads of rumours spreading about what might have happened. People are sitting their exams like my niece, but how can they do that after something like this? "My sister just rushed there, and there are other kids panicking who can’t get hold of their mum or dad. They just got a message saying the school is closed." This is a Breaking News story.
