Spurs were minutes away from their first league win of 2026 on Saturday before a 95th-minute Brighton and Hove Albion equaliser denied them the three points. Despite Spurs’ poor form and perilous league position, De Zerbi insisted his team can still go on a run, starting against Wolverhampton Wanderers next Saturday. “It is not finished yet,” De Zerbi said in his post-match press conference. “We have another five games. Every one of us knows it’s a tough moment, a difficult situation. But we have another five games, for 15 points. And this team is able to win five games in a row. “Now it is difficult to hear my words, but if you watch the players, if you analyse the level of the players, I think we can win five games in a row. Not to be arrogant, because I’m not arrogant, especially not now. But we have the qualities enough to fight and win games in a row.” Tottenham’s last league win came against Crystal Palace on December 28, back when Thomas Frank was still head coach. But De Zerbi has overseen an improvement in performances in his two games in charge, first in the 1-0 defeat at Sunderland last week and then Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Brighton. De Zerbi was impressed with Spurs’ commitment in a game where they took the lead twice, only to concede equalisers in stoppage time in both halves. “I think we deserved to win the game,” De Zerbi said. “I’m proud of the performance of my players, very proud because they gave their all, their best, with the right mentality, with the right blood, with the right character. “I am disappointed just for the result, just for my players and for the fans, because it was an incredible atmosphere today in a very tough situation, very difficult moment, but the stadium was great.” De Zerbi also told his Spurs players that they cannot allow the disappointment of not winning this game to affect them before their must-win match at Wolves next Saturday. “They have to not think, they have to follow me and listen to me,” De Zerbi said. “I’m proud of their performance, they have to be stronger and to be focused just on the Wolverhampton game, to come to training on Monday afternoon with a smile. Otherwise they go home immediately. I have no time to see negative people, to see sad players or sad assistants. “No, we are lucky because we are working in a big club, big stadium, we are working in the Premier League. We have the qualities, the right qualities to win the game. So we have to be positive. I don’t like people who cry, who think in a negative way.” Spot the pattern.
