Real-life superhero moment as driver dressed as Spider-Man comes to rescue of man using wheelchair

Published: 06:40, 24 July 2026 | Updated: 06:59, 24 July 2026 A real-life superhero moment was captured on video when a driver dressed as Spider-Man came to the rescue of a pedestrian in a wheelchair who was struggling to cross a busy highway in Arkansas. Christopher Hellenthal, 20, was still dressed as the web-slinger after working a superhero-themed event at a trampoline park on Tuesday when he spotted the man trying to cross the six-lane roadway, according to The Associated Press. Footage showed the man struggling to cross before Hellenthal hopped out of his red Jeep Wrangler in full costume and quickly pushed the wheelchair across the highway. 'I had a bunch of adrenaline pumping through me,' Hellenthal told The Associated Press. 'I was just kind of thinking, "I'm wearing this suit; it's gonna be pretty funny."' Hellenthal told the outlet that he has always been a superhero fan and even met Marvel Comics and Spider-Man creator Stan Lee before he died in 2018.  The Jonesboro Police Department uploaded the heroic moment to Facebook, where it has garnered more than 1.7 million views. 'We were able to spot this little web of kindness on our intersection cameras,' the video's caption reads. 'Thank you, sir, for helping this gentleman reach his destination safely. Whether it's a red light or green light, there is always time to do what's right!' Hellenthal, who works at a trampoline park, was in the costume for a superhero-themed birthday party, told the Associated Press that he 'had a bunch of adrenaline pumping' through him as he jumped out of his red Jeep Wrangler to help the man cross the road  Hundreds of others took to the post's comment section, including Angie Walker, who claimed to be Hellenthal's manager. 'I am the general manager of Ultimate Air Trampoline Park, and this gentleman is an employee of ours,' Walker wrote. 'We had Superhero Day at Ultimate Air for our toddlers, and he had just left. This is not AI or anything planned. He is just a great person who saw somebody struggling and needed help. He just happened to be in a superhero suit.' 'Give him some recognition for preventing a potential disaster from happening,' another commenter added. 'Like a good citizenship award. He didn't have to get out of the car and do it, but he did to prevent a major accident/disaster. Good job!' 'This guy is amazing. I know helping people can sometimes be scary or feel weird, but I don't understand why the other person standing at the crosswalk wouldn't help,' a third commenter added. 'I was just kind of thinking, "I'm wearing this suit; it's gonna be pretty funny,"' added the hero who narrowly made it back to his Jeep as traffic started moving  Hellenthal added that he was a superhero fan and even met Marvel Comics and Spider-Man creator Stan Lee before he died (The movie Spider-Man featuring Tobey Magurie released in 2002)  'I'm glad he got to the other side safely and, again, props to the guy who was kind enough to help!' The heartwarming moment occurred about a week ahead of the release of the superhero sequel Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which hits theaters on July 31.
