Price of a family BBQ has soared 43% with burgers alone now costing 83% more due to 'Trumpflation'

A new analysis has found the price of a typical shopping list for a family BBQ has soared over the past five years. A meal of burgers, sausages and corn on the cobs for a family of four was £14.28 from Tesco and £12.69 from Waitrose in 2021, according to the research. But the same selection of products now costs £21.14 at Tesco and £17.41 at Waitrose - an average increase of 43 per cent. A pack of four burgers from Tesco was found to have increased in price by 83 per cent alone, while a pack of 10 slices of cheese was up by 63 per cent. In Waitrose, the price of two corn on the cob rose by 55 per cent over the last five years. The price rises were partly blamed on 'Trumpflation' caused by the US President Donald Trump's war with Iran, which has sent global costs of food and fuel soaring. The Liberal Democrats, who conducted the analysis, have demanded the Government get a grip on the rising cost of a family supermarket shop, which is squeezing household budgets. 'As well as record-breaking temperatures, families will also be feeling the heat when it comes to their finances this summer,' said Daisy Cooper, the Lib Dems' Treasury spokeswoman: 'For many, their budgets will go up in smoke when they get to the supermarket checkout and see the cost of BBQ essentials has nearly doubled from just a few years ago. 'More inflation is the absolute last thing people need as they already struggle with the cost of living and soaring bills. 'It is not fair that families here in Britain are being priced out of enjoying a barbie because of Trumpflation and the Government's failure to tackle the cost of living. 'Liberal Democrats have been grilling the Government to pull their finger out on the cost of living. 'Let's get bills down for people now by cutting fuel duty, and have a long term plan to help British farmers so we can protect families from price spikes.'
