A food festival bringing together some of Wales' most popular street food vendors has been cancelled due to "severe weather conditions", it has been announced. Barry Island Food Festival was due to be held on the seafront on Saturday and Sunday but organisers have announced that the food festival will not be going ahead on Saturday due to "high winds and severe weather conditions" forecast. The street food event is expected to take place as planned on Sunday, June 7. The Met Office forecast says Saturday will be "windy with heavy showers and longer spells of rain." In a post on social media organisers said they were "absolutely gutted" to have to cancel the event. They wrote: "It is with a very heavy heart that, due to the forecast of high winds and severe weather conditions, we have made the difficult decision to cancel today’s Barry Island Food Festival. "The safety of our traders, visitors, performers, and staff must always come first and, after careful consideration, we do not feel it is safe to proceed today. "We know how disappointing this is. Our incredible traders have worked so hard to prepare for the weekend and we are absolutely gutted to have to make this call." This year's event is organised by the Vale of Glamorgan Council in partnership with Indie Collectives, digital creator Llio Angharad, and 96 Events. Barry Island Food Festival is set on the promenade overlooking Whitmore Bay beach and brings together street food vendors, Welsh chefs, live music, and indie traders to celebrate businesses from across the Vale and beyond. Some of the most popular street food vendors due to be at this year's festival include Meat & Greek, Mr Croquewich, and Bab Haus. The team behind the festival urged as many people as possible to support the event on Sunday due to traders having lost a day of business. Their statement continued: "The good news is that the festival will go ahead tomorrow and we’re planning a full day of fantastic food, drink, music, markets and family-friendly activities. "If you’re able to join us tomorrow we’d be incredibly grateful for your support. Our traders have lost a day of trading so we’d love to see as many people as possible come down, support local businesses, eat well, shop local, and help us make tomorrow a blooming brilliant day. "Thank you for your understanding, patience and support. We can’t wait to welcome you tomorrow." Get daily breaking news updates on your phone by joining our WhatsApp community here .
